"The Wightmare is a mythical horse that you can ride into another dimension. An evocative notion. We like to think that the AB&D Wightmare can also transport you into another world – one of crisp delicious aromas, flavours and effortless pourmeanotherglassness."
Wightmare is crisp, energetic and aromatic white wine, with punchy sherbety citrus fruit aromas and a waft of frangipani. There is substance and texture to the palate with flavours of pithy grapefruit and blossom, with a bone-dry, vivid, stony finish.
Alpha Box & Dice were formed as a laboratory for viticultural exploration in 2008, as the team set up constructing a different wine style to represent every letter of the alphabet. Each member of the ‘Alphabet of Wine’ has its own unique personality that fulfils a different purpose – no two wines are created alike. AB&D wines are all linked by their environment and surrounding, being created holistically through minimal intervention, vegan friendly methods. However, they are completely distinct in their flavour, appearance and orientation. In this way, AB&D wines are just like a (mostly) happy family. With a culture soaked in community, quality and a laissez-faire spirit, Alpha Box & Dice will continue to inspire, delight and surprise in everything they do… and they do a lot!
"Championing the integrity and overwhelming quality of South Australian fruit"
AB&D Vision: Wines without boundaries – regional, varietal or stylistic. Wines whose entire raison d’être is to be delicious and to express the minutia and complexity of site and vintage conditions. Wines that enchant; wines that delight you and leave you betwixt the rock and ripe grape. Through a series of random experiments in the field and adventures in vinous bricolage, these are our modest goals.
100% McLaren Vale region fruit, the grapes are picked off two vineyards in Blewitt Springs. They are then cool fermented over a six month period in stainless steel with weekly lees stirring.
Food Recommendations: Matching all manner of dishes and promoting discourse between family, friends and lovers. Ideal on its own, or with fresh shucked oysters.
Rich White Wines
Full-bodied white wines can sometimes be confused as being red wines when served in black glassware. This is because rich white wines typically undergo similar treatments as red wines in the winery to achieve the bold flavour. This usually means some oak aging, to add that classic vanilla or coconut note, as well as a process called ‘Malolactic Fermentation’, which changes the type of acid in the wine to make wine taste creamier. Many full-bodied white wines will age up to 10 years, although most are in their prime at around 3-4 years.
