Full structure and body, with intense red berry and spice aromas following through to the palate - layers of flavour.

Krohn are a small family-owned Port house run by brother and sister Jose and Iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category. The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia.

Wet weather in Winter and Spring (2003) was followed by a very hot August. Grapes showed high concentration and sweetness but relatively low acidity. Bottled 2 years after the harvest, and then spend many years maturing in bottle.
Great with cheeses such as Stiliton, but young vintage Ports can also match very well with Steak au Poivre.
