Details
A deeply mulberry opaque colour, dark fruits of cherry and bramble nestle between a sweet vanilla, cinnamon spice and a roasted, leathery savouriness. The palate offers plenty more black fruits and vanilla notes with an intriguing edge of bitter chocolate and burnt toffee. Still a very young wine with chunky tannins, good length and lots of bite.
One of Ribera del Duero's outstanding estates, located near the village of Pedrosa del Duero, the property was established in 1980 but the first release under the Pago de los Capellanes was not until the 1996 vintage. Since then, awards and accolades have been won across the range thanks to meticulous attention to detail in both vineyard and cellar. One hundred hectares are planted, with eighty currently mature, roughly divided into 80% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet and 10% Merlot. Low yields (an average of 35 hl/ha) and immaculately tended vines produce super concentrated, pure and polished wines.
Grapes are from the Pedrosa del Duero estate vineyards. The soils consist of clay and chalk.
Ageing is in French oak barrels for 22 months with one year in bottle before release.
Pair with big meat dishes.
Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) 100%
