Impressive Douro red, intense, dark and full bodied with ripe and rich wild berry fruits and chunky tannins. Cherry and plum fruit are nicely balanced by spicy dry tannins on the finish.
Krohn are a small family-owned Port house run by brother and sister Jose and Iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category. The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia.
Grapes were grown in the Rio Torto area, a tributary of the Douro river. The vineyards are about 15-20 years old and mostly classified as “A” (the highest rate in the Douro Demarcated Region).
