Deep golden colour; complex nutty aromas gleaned from long wood ageing; rich, honeyed flavours with long tangy finish and acidity. Very superior to most white ports. Serve as an aperitif or with nuts and dried fruits. In summer do as the Portuguese do: add ice and tonic!
Krohn are a small family-owned house run by brother and sister Jose and iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category.
The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia.
