Details
Complex nose full of raisins and spices of cloves, cardamom and nutmeg, a sweet muscovado sugar warmth and a touch of balsamic character. The palate starts powerfully with rich, sweet, toffee and hazelnut flavours, finishing with violet floral tones laced delicately with the supple tannins.
Krohn are a small family-owned house run by brother and sister Jose and iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category.
The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia.
