Spy Valley Riesling~Enhanced flavour purity, a softer acidity and a more genorous alcohol and grape sugar balance than many other Marlborough Rieslings…~The extra ripeness across the Spy Valley Riesling vineyard has not only delivered enhanced flavour purity but a softer acidity and a more genorous alcohol and grape sugar balance than in recent years.

After picking and pressing, the individual parcels were tank fermented at warm temperatures. At the end of fermentation the wines were racked off the yeast lees and aged for four months prior to blending and bottling.

Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc~The palate captures the disti:nctive Mud House intensity of passion fruit, gooseberry and guava…~Pungent passionfruit and grapefruit aromas with a complex lees note underlying. Generous fruit flaours and enhanced textures through lees aging have given this wine great interest across the palate.

After gentle pressing all the individual parcels were tank fermented at cool temperatures. At the end of fermentation the wines were then aged on full lees for six weeks. After racking the component wines were then settled for a further six weeks prior ro blending and bottling.

Part of the appeal of Riesling is its distinct aromatic capabilities, and Mud House has produced a wine that delivers on all accounts. Alluring with its intense lifted floral aromas it is supported by citrus notes of lime and grapefruit. On the palate it is rich and full with stunning flavours of grapefruit, lime and honeysuckle – summer in a glass.

Marlborough enjoys the longest ripening period of anywhere in the world. A balanced pruning, shoot trimming, tucking, and thinning regime ensures a partially shaded canopy is maintained, enabling the full flavours of the grapes to mature. Whites are machine harvested in the cool of the morning and promptly pressed to capture this intensity of flavour.

Selected from various low yielding vineyards in the Wairau, Brancott, Waihoepai and Awatere valleys, these Sauvignon Blanc grapes were machine harvested and protectively handled. After juice clarification the wine was innoculated with pure, aromatic yeast strains and cool fermented.

It opens up in the glass to reveal passionfruit, pineapple, honey and melon with a full and round palate due to the extended lees contact and influence of oak.

Drinking at its best after 2-3 months in bottle, this wine will develop greater complexity to around 12 months, but has enopugh weight and natural acidity, plus complexity to last past this.

This wine can be enjoyed on its own, or accompanying a variety of foods such as oysters, grilled fish or spicy thai (but serve it cold to make it more zingy), where it should not overpower, but enhance and provide balance.

Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc~Finely structured, intense and persistent on the palate - a very classy wine. Classic gooseberry and stone fruits with a juicy dry finish…~Aromas are reserved and very tightly focused with lime, sweet herb and peach characters in its youth. These will evolve and become more punchy over the next year or so. The palate shows similar characters and flavours which are currently vibrant and vivid yet will settle down over the next 2-3 years. Finely structured, intense and persistent on the palate - a very classy wine. Classic gooseberry and stone fruits with a juicy dry finish. In its youth the wine is pale straw in colour with bright lime green hints. Aromas are reserved and very tightly focused in its youth in the bright gooseberry/ sweet herb/white peach spectrum. The palate shows very similar characters and flavours which in their youth are vivid and alive. The wine is tightly structured, but slightly lusher than previous vintages, with a distinctive bony feel that gives the palate length and persistence. This wine will evolve over two to three years in the bottle...

These Sauvignon Blanc grapes are from first cropping vines on one of our best Marlborough vineyards situated in the Lower Waihopai Valley. As the vines were first crop, the grapes ripened in the head of the vine with good leaf cover. Due to the clay component of the soil, we get the full spectrum of Sauvignon flavours from herbaceousness through to passionfruit.

The palate is long and succulent, combining exotic fruits with ripe, red capsicum and a twist of green olive... beautifully complemented by crisp natural acidity and a hint of lime zest.

Aromas of lychee and honeysuckle intermingle with a hint of smoky oak…~Cloudy Bay Te Koko is an individual expression of the sauvignon blanc grape, a complex and savoury wine that is both deliciously aromatic and richly textured. Aromas of lychee and honeysuckle intermingle with the scent of thyme and a hint of smoky oak. Released as a matured wine, Te Koko is a full-bodied, alternative style of sauvignon blanc ... a complimentary addition to the Cloudy Bay range.

The winemaking philosophy of Te Koko is very much 'hands off', and is the result of winemaking curiosity, having employed similar techniques with chardonnay. After harvesting and pressing, the juice is transferred to French oak barrels and allowed to undergo fermentation using naturally occurring yeast. This primary fermentation is subsequently followed by a full malolactic fermentation in the following spring. The wine is left in barrel, on yeast lees for 18 months prior to bottling.

The bay at the Eastern extremity of the Wairau Valley, named 'Cloudy Bay' by Captain Cook, was originally known as 'Te Koko - o - Kupe' by the Maori people of the region. Legend has it that Kupe, the Tahitian explorer dredged for oysters in the bay and Te Koko refers to the scoop used by Kupe to lift the oysters from the seabed.
