After sampling a bottle of this Chilean beauty at the Monkey Island resort hotel in London, we were pleasantly surprised to see that it was imported by one of our local importers, Nick John. Sometimes when you experience a bottle of wine away from home the joy of the occasion can lead you to over-rate the wine. Fortunately this was not the case with this rich Carmenère which was as good at home as it had been away from home.
Whilst not yet quite in the 'fine wine' category, it is as close as you can get without spending a fortune. I understand that it will probably improve with a few years in the cellar, but to be honest we keep drinking it never allowing our stash to age!
The colour in the glass is a deep dark red, and on the nose you can detect that this is a complex wine. The hints of berries perhaps tell you that there is more to this wine than just a strong tannic structure. The taste confirms the scent, with a good blend of tannin and fruit to ensure that neither is dominant, with the rich berry taste held in check by the blackberry or black cherry fruits. Like any half decent wine there is a nice long aftertaste.
This wine goes really well with rich meat dishes, and barbequed food, would not hesitate to recommend.
McHenry Hohnen Rocky Road SSB from Margaret River. A good buy at around half price. A delicious summer drinking wine
I have drank this wine the first time in Holland and I’ve been looking for it in the UK for the pasta 5 years and finally found a store who sells it and delivery it so quickly! Very happy with the product
..and I enjoy it too. Tough to find in the UK and always bring back with us from Spanish driving trips.
Excellent , drink neat or with ice only, to appreciate the flavour , definately not to drunk with mixers.Happy Days !!
Lovely Chardonnay
One of my favourite pilsners offered at a great price.
Bollinger never fails to impress
A lovely sharp refreshing taste
Love this excellent
My favourite sparkling Rose at moment. It beats a lot of rose Champagnes in my opinion. Refreshing and not too dry.
One of my favourite Tasmanian sparkling wines, most of which are preferable to French champagne in my view. Made in a similar way to champagne but without the dry finish Jansz is easy to drink for any occasion.
Massive SB fan, my favourite being Spy Valley but this mixed case had 6 absolute crackers. As someone else said, not one mediocre wine in this case. Ordered for 5th time.
Super quick delivery, incredible wine selection. You couldn’t ask for better
