An unctuous, smooth and balanced sweet wine. Honey, peach and white balsamic with soft muscat fruity notes.

Inspired by wine writer Hugh Johnson's comment that one of the greatest wines he'd ever tried was a Moscatel from the mountains of Malaga, winemaker Telmo Rodriguez found a high-altitude vineyard and produced his first vintage in 1998. This medium sweet wine smells and tastes of spicy apricots, honey, nutmeg, and tropical fruits. It will pair nicely with foie gras and desserts. One glass of this wine was served to every guest at the end of the meal at Ferran Adria’s restaurant El Bulli.

Grown in the Sierras de Málaga wine region at an altitude of 900m on very steep, schist slopes.

Telmo Rodriguez is one of the most well known personalities in Spanish winemaking. His family home is Remelluri in Rioja Alavesa a truly special place to learn and grow. For more than 30 years Telmo and his business partner Pablo Eguzkiza have been rediscovering and recovering historic regions and vines around Spain. Buying vineyards and investing in the infrastructure and preserving vineyards not just flying in as is often the perception. The vineyards they have recovered in Valdeorras, Cebreros, Toro, Rueda and Malaga are truly special places, capable of making extraordinary wines.

We list wines from six of the projects around Spain where Telmo, Pablo and their team live and work. Ladeiras do Xil in Galicia where the focus is on Godello and Mencia from tiny vineyard plots. Molino Real, mountain wines from Malaga in the south of Spain where the motivation is to preserve the historic sweet wines mentioned by Shakespeare and Dumas and sadly long forgotten. Pegaso Vinas Viejas, extraordinary old vine Garnachas planed in the Gredos mountains east of Madrid. Gago, Viticultores de Toro, where Telmo and Pablo have been working since the late 1990's with a small number of local families again focussed on preserving old vineyards on the edge of extinction. Basa Blancos de Rueda, where they pioneered characterful wines from the much maligned Verdejo, helping to put the region back on the vinous map for quality and finally Al Muvedre, Tinto Monastrell from selected sites in Alicante.
