To the eye R.D. 2004 is bright and deep gold. The nose displays an abundance of stewed and candied fruits, accompanied by touches of sweet spice. With time, notes of mirabelle and preserved orange unfold in the glass. Intense cooked fruit and tarte tatin flavours express themselves in a mouth that is full and harmonious.

Produced exclusively with the cuvée juice from 16 Crus (88% Grands crus and 12% Premier crus). Bollinger R.D. is then fermented exclusively in small oak barrels and aged under natural cork in the cellars under Madame Bollinger’s house for more than four times longer than required by the appellation for an infinite array of flavours: a true wine alchemy. R.D. stands for Récemment Dégorgé, Recently Disgorged. Champagne Bollinger R.D. is released only a few months after it is disgorged guaranteeing the remarkable freshness of the wine.

"Very, very fruity – even at ten years old. Apple, lemon and lime, and something almost Fino-esque – the crossover of flor and autolysis perhaps? Very complex and individual."

"The lovely nose of acacia blossom, toast and graphite leads to flavors of poached quince, fleur de sel, white cherry, lemon pith and almond skin in this dry and harmonious Champagne. Almost airy and ethereal in texture, yet the finely woven flavor range goes on and on, echoing on the finish."

"It's precisely like this Bollinger RD should taste from the beginning. Nobody can be disappointed here. Perhaps, 2004, is not one of the most heroic vintages but on the other hand one of the most classic. The very essence of the RD concept is to try to capture a wine's optimal maturity along with maximum freshness. The intensity of the mature layers of dark chocolate, tobacco, black truffles from Vaucluse and a melancholy hiking in the moist autumn forest is, at least, impressive...it tingles of lust on the tongue when stringency, chalk and jingling pure acids dance over the finish line."
