Tasted en primeur, the Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2019 displays a deep and shiny red colour. On the nose, the wine reveals powerful aromas of black fruits, like cherries, enhanced by hints of spices and menthol. On the palate, the attack is dense, precise and complex. The aromatic and balanced finish is underlined by a nice freshness. This Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2019 expresses a beautiful richness and a great complexity, consistent with the signature of Grand-Puy-Lacoste.

Located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste took its current form in 1855, although it was built in the 16th century. The wine estate was greatly influenced during its ownership by Raymond Dupin from 1930 to 1978. Dupin ceded the property to the Borie family, who have carried out numerous renovations since then. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is today one of the most representative estates of the Pauillac appellation.

This 2019 vintage was a great success for Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste. The mild, dry winter allowed for an early bud burst. The arrival in April of cooler temperatures slowed down the vegetative cycle in the vineyard. The particularly hot and dry summer created a strong water stress, which slowed the growth of the vine and paced out the ripening process of the fruit. In September the light rain allowed the fruit to reach perfect maturity in time for the harvest.

"This is a very polished young wine with lemon-rind, blackcurrant, cedar and lavender character. It’s full, yet so refined and sophisticated, with floral undertones to the pretty fruit. The tannins are intense and long. Give this at least five or six years to soften. Try after 2025." - 96/100 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, December 2021

"The 2019 Grand-Puy-Lacoste has a well-defined bouquet with cedar and graphite infused black fruit, hints of pencil shavings, controlled and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, taut and fresh with a pixelated and mineral-driven finish, lingering long in the mouth. What a heavenly 2019 Pauillac. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drink 2026-2060." - 97/100 Neal Martin, vinous.com (Southwold), February 2023

"The 2019 Grand-Puy-Lacoste exhibits notions of minty cassis, plums, loamy soil, burning embers and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety palate that’s deep and concentrated, its generous core of lively fruit concealing an elegantly muscular chassis of ripe, powdery tannin. Consisting of fully 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is another true classic from the Borie family. Drink Date 2027 - 2065" - 96/100 William Kelley, RobertParker.com (April 2022), April 2022
